1. | Reliability Study of Turkish Version of Children's Behavior Questionnaire Short Form and a Vaiiditiy Prestudy Burcu Akın Sarı, Elvan İşeri, Özhan Yalçın, Aslı Akın Aslan, Şahnur Şener Pages 135 - 143 Objective: Temperament assesment is an important determinant for child behaviour research and consulting the family. Temperament could be assesed by family interview, observing the child and using temperament scales. In this respect, we implemented reliability study and validity prestudy of Turkish version of Child Behaviour List Short Form by Rothbart. Method: Temperament scale, translated into Turkish and consulted to the experts, is filled twice within a week's interval by the mothers of 87 children aged between 3 and 7. Sample included children from three different socioeconomic regions. Results: The original form of Children Behavior Checklist was created by Rothbart and col- legues in 1994. It was composed of 195 items. In 2000 the short and very short form were developed by Rothbart and collegues. Checklists have 15 dimensions of temperament, and the short form have 94 items. Analysis aiming the reliability of the test showed that the subscales of the Turkish Form have consistent correlation figures as the English Form and all the subscales are reliable. The reliability coefficient is 0,78. Because there is no comparable temperament questionnaire in Turkish for this age group and there is no validity values for the original questionnaire, we applied experimental validity method for validity prestudy. Conclusion: According to our findings of test-retest relations, internal consistency, reliability and validity analysis, and the literature we consider that Child Behaviour List Short Form is useful to asses the temperament characteristics of Turkish children. |

These patients should be monitored carefully by this regard and consultation-liason services for dialysis units should be increased. |

5. | A Case of Neuro-Behcet's Disease with Affective Disorder Esra Aydın, Aynil Yenel, Özgür Bilgin Topçuoğlu, Fatma Feriha Cengiz, Gülnihal Gökçe Ünal, Rümeysa Yeni Elbay, Füsun Domaç Pages 175 - 180 A 33 years old woman who was suffering from Neuro- Behcet's Disease had symptoms like loss of balance, vertigo and affective lability. At the fourth day of steroid treatment in addition to her labile affect and increased psychomotor activity, increased speech and loosening of associations were observed. Risperidone and Carbamazepine were started and at the second day of treatment the symptoms began to decrease. Affective disorder caused by steroid treatment is well known. But this patient also had symptoms before steroid treatment. Was this situation related to steroid treatment or was it an affective disorder comorbidity due to Behcet's Disease? Central Nervous System involvement is 5-20% in patients who are diagnosed with Behcet's Disease and it is named as Neurobehcet Syndrome. The affected areas in Neuro-Behcet Syndrome include brainstem, spinal cord, and cerebral regions. Sometimes it is hard to determine the affected area because symptoms are non- spesific. Meningo-encephalic syndrome, focal neurological deficits and dementia are the most seen clinical appearences. Especially mental disorders such as cognitive impairment are explicit in this disease. Neuropsychiatric manifestations are relatively serious complications in Neuro-Behcet Syndrome and 8-50% of patients exhibit psychiatric symptoms. The initial signs and symptoms of the syndrome are usually vague. This makes Neuro-Behcet Syndrome hard to diagnose until the patients experience severe neurological damages. In this case report, relationship and potential causes of this situation and steroid related affective disorders are compared to similar situations in the literature. |
6. | Geriatric Depression with the Complaint of Paradoxal Dysphagia: A Case Report Demet Güleç Öyekçin, Pınar Çetinay Aydın, Yıldız Değirmenci Pages 181 - 186 Physical and mental disorders are common in elderly. While depressive symptoms are prevalent in the elderly, the diagnosis of major depressive disorder is 1-5% at this age group. Physical symptoms are also common in geriatric patients. Somatic complaints may be the leading symptoms of an underlying psychiatric disorder or they may delay the recognition of a mental disorder. In this case report, the course, differential diagnosis and the treatment of a 76 year old male patient who admitted to the hospital with a complaint of paradoxal dysphagia is discussed. The patient was unable to swallow liquids not solids. After the physical, orapharyngolaryngeal, neurological and psychiatric examination, the patient was diagnosed as major depressive disorder with psychotic features and then was hospitalized because of suicidal thoughts and nutritional problems. Antidepressant and antipsychotic treatment was performed and the patient was discharged in remission. We found out that depressive symptoms were present before the dysphagia, but the patient admitted to the hospital after dysphagia symptom emerged. In this case report we recognized that the atypical physical symptom had appeared as a result of geriatric depression; the latter being known to have high risk of mortality and morbidity in elderly. Atypical somatic symptoms in the elderly should be taken into account and investigated carefully as they may present as a pioneer sign of geriatric depression and may provide early diagnosis of the disorder. |
